Leonardo Dicaprio received the best actor nod in a drama for his performance in The Revenant last Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, making this his eleventh nomination and third win.
Nominees for the category alongside Dicaprio were Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Will Smith for Concussion, Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl and MichaelmFassbender for Steve Jobs.
This is how Dicaprio's winning speech went: "I want to share this award with all the First Nations peoples represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world. It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests. It is time we protected this planet for future generations.
Right after taking home the award for Best Motion Picture, Best Director winner Alejandro González Iñárritu and Dicaprio dropped by the E! News After Party to share their night's glory with Maria Menounos. They also discussed what it took to get The Revenant to the big screen. Dicaprio thinks that the film got incredibly recognized and though their whole team is totally shocked, they all felt fantastic. He also added that it is a big deal for them as filmmakers because they want to make more movies like the Revenant.
Dicaprio also expressed his heart felt gratitude towards Iñárritu, saying that he couldn't have made this film with anyone else. "This man had a feverish look in hus eye. He wanted to go into the elements, submerge himself in nature for months at a time, and he wanted to find the poetry that came out of it," he said.
Iñárritu felt the same way for Dicaprio, saying that he just pulled it off. "I have to say Leo's great. You can put a great landscape, a great light, a great shot, but if there is no soul, no substance, nothing is there. And he just brings all that," he tells E!'s Maria Menounos.
