A corporate jet overshoots on Eden Prairie as it tries to land on Flying Cloud Airport in Minneapolis. The plane reportedly took down a fence as it overshot the runway on Monday. Photos of the plane resting on the side of the road has surfaced but no injuries were reported.
Witnesses to the incident say the plane aimed for the landing strip but it just kept sliding towards the highway scaring some of them.
There's no word yet on why and how the jet reached the road. Metropolitan Airports Commission representative Melissa Scovronski could not fill in the press with more details about the landing.
Police say however that the Embrader Phenom 300 owned by Flight Options of Cleveland came to a halt upon reaching the shoulder of the highway just before 9 in the morning.
The Flight Options aircraft's representatives told reporters that the plane had two crew members onboard. There are no casualties or injuries according to reports but the small plane that seats seven passengers caused Southbound Flying Cloud Drive to be closed temporarily. It took several hours for the road to be opened again as the jet was moved away from the road.
The drive reopened in the afternoon, city officials say. However, no details are available yet on where the plane originated and what caused it to slide down the road. An independent aviation group says the jet departed from the Pittsburgh International Airport.
An investigation started Monday hours after the twin-engine jet slid to the side of the road. Both pilots could not be reached for an interview about the incident but reports say that the National Safety Board has started investigating the what caused the jet to overshoot the Eden Prairie runway.
The jet reportedly left Pittsburgh at 7:30 in the morning and was bound to arrive two hours later.
