Mentalist season 6 episode 8 is going to feature the final showdown between Patrick Jane and the real red John (whoever he may be). But as this episode marks the end of the RJ arc, can we say the same about Mentalist? The answer is a big NO since creator and writer Bruno Heller revealed recently that the show is actually going to smoothly transition into a different arc where there is "less darkness" and "more freedom" for Jane. In last week's Mentalist episode "The Great Red Dragon," we were somehow made to believe that Gale Bertram (Michael Gaston) is Red John after Patrick Jane publicly announced that he is the man behind the serial killings in the Red John case. Meanwhile, we saw Reede Smith (Drew Powell) acting weak and powerless such that he was given CBI protection. But then again we are not convinced that Bertram is the real Red John. So it's up for the final episode of this saga to clarify that. However, Bruno Heller already told The Hollywood Reported this week that the show is moving the story forward. "The best way to move the story forward in a way that is exciting to the audience is to move it forward much faster than they think it's going to move," he said, adding, "If you think you know what's happening and you think you know where it's going, you may be wrong." Actor Simon baker opened up recently about the impending end of the Red John saga and he dished, "The end of Red John was originally planned to take place at night on the street with people watching, but I pushed to do it in the daylight in a quiet, beautiful place where they could be alone." He then added, "There is no human act more intimate - not even sex - than killing another human being and watching them die."
In a sneak peek to Mentalist season 6 episode 8 "Red John," we can see that Patrick is getting busy in capturing the man who has done him and his family wrong in the past. His eagerness to finally make him pay this time around could be seen all-over his face. Then, at the end of the preview we are teased that Jane has apparently killed Red John. Does this spell victory for Jane?
The official synopsis for Mentalist season 6 episode 8 reads: "Patrick Jane finally comes face-to-face with Red John, the serial killer he's tracked since the madman murdered his wife and daughter. For 10 years, Jane has doggedly hunted his nemesis in his search for justice."
