This Alabama fan shooting isn't the first deadly fan behavior in sports history. A Giants-Dodgers rivalry resulted in a Dodgers fan being fatally stabbed near the AT&T Park after a game. The 24-year-old victim was wearing Dodgers gear when he, along with other fans, got into an argument with another group with a member wearing a Giants hat. Insults flew, and one fan was stabbed to death.

A study in 2011 concluded that the number deadly car crashes increases after a nail-biting game. North Carolina State University researchers analyzed the number of traffic deaths that occurred after 271 college and professional football and basketball games between 2001 and 2008. They found that there was a 133% increase in traffic deans following a close game but only in the places where there were winners. It seems that the Alabama fan shooting is fast becoming just another event in the string of deadly fan behavior.
