Tony Romo will not be playing for the rest of the season after Sunday's 24-23 comeback win against the Washington Redskins. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback suffered from a serious back injury during the game, USA TODAY sports reported Monday.
According to the report, although the details of Romo's back injury was supposed to be confidential, one person who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the quarterback had apparently suffered from a herniated disk.
Because of Tony's back injury, backup Kyle Orton, 35-34 as a starter, will be under center in the succeeding games. Orton will be replacing the 33-year-old quarterback when the 8-7 Cowboys play host to the 9-6 Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday night's showdown for the NFC East division title.
The game will mark as Orton's first start since Kansas City's 2011 regular-season finale.
Despite limping overtly during after obtaining the injury, Romo managed to play and even completed 10 of 13 fourth-quarter passes for 140 yards.
"It didn't keep him from playing, it won't keep him from playing," owner jerry jones said.
Nevertheless, Romo walked gingerly to the postgame lectern.
"You just play through it just like anything - it's football," Romo said.
