Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana Rematch Update: Maidana’s Camp Want Gloves Issue to be Resolved

Talks about the rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana are already underway, and the fight could be finalized in the coming weeks.
According to Sebastian Contursi, Maidana's manager, the two sides are already discussing the possibility of staging a rematch on September 13, possibly at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Contursi said that one of the things that they are planning to bring up is the issue about the gloves Maidana can use in the proposed rematch.
In their first fight, Maidana was forced to use a different set of gloves after Mayweather complained about the lack of padding on Maidana's preferred gloves, which almost led to the cancellation of the bout.
Contursi said that he will make sure that the gloves issue will be included in the possible contract, while also denying that they got substantial amount of money for using the gloves allowed by Mayweather's camp.
"The gloves will surely be included in the negotiations as detailed as possible, but we have not even touched that subject. I do not know where the information came from that we got a million and a half dollars for Maidana to use the gloves that he used in the May fight," Contursi said via BoxingScene.
When asked about the possibility of announcing the rematch this week, Contursi said that he cannot say when the rematch will be finalized, but he revealed that both sides are really interested in facing each other again.
"I cannot say how close or how far away we are [in making a deal. The important thing now is that there is interest from both sides," Contursi said. "Hopefully things will be defined favorably in the coming days, but in big fights you know that negotiations are not easy."
Mayweather promised to give Maidana a rematch after their first fight on May 3 ended in a close majority decision win for the reigning pound-for-pound king, who kept his record unblemished in 46 professional bouts.
Maidana, who lost his WBA welterweight title, earned the admiration of fight fans after giving Mayweather arguably the toughest fight of his career, putting the pressure on the unbeaten champion's shoulder for the entire bout.
