The bona fide R&B princess and urban pop star, Aaliyah, has been given a tribute by her fans as they're remembering the singer's death on its thirteenth anniversary; a glimpse back on her life through her music.

Aaliyah Dana Haughton or simply Aaliyah to her fans was an American recording artist, dancer, model and actress.  Aaliyah's career was cut short after her sudden and tragic death on August 25, 2001 on a plane crash after filming her video, "Rock the Boat" in the Bahamas. The fatal twin-engine crash killed all nine of its passengers including Aaliyah and her crew.

According to some reports, the urban pop star died an instant death when the plane, a Cessna 402B, exploded on impact shortly after takeoff just 200 feet beyond the end of a runway at Marsh Harbour International Airport on Abaco Islands, The Bahamas, to travel to the Opa-Locka Airport in Florida. The singer died at age 22. Reports on the investigation of Aaliyah's death have been done over the past decade, several allegations have surfaced but none of them can bring back the singer's life.

Before Aaliyah's death, she made quite an impact on the music realm and became a breakthrough star in Hollywood after she starred on films like Queen of the Damned and Romeo Must Die, with Jet Li. She contributed to the film's soundtrack, which produced the single "Try Again." The single earned Aaliyah a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocalist.

Aaliyah worked with record producer Missy Elliot and Timbaland for her second album, One In A Million; which sold over eight million copies globally and almost 3.7 million copies in the United States alone.

A month before Aaliyah's death, she released her third album that featured "More Than A Woman", "I Care 4 U" and "We Need A Resolution", a Timbaland-produced song. The album was certified double Platinum and sold 2.95 million copies in the US.

Music personalities paid tribute to the singer through the music video "Miss You" after her death. Several film, television and music projects are in the works in her honor. As an artist, Aaliyah had inspired a lot of music performers and had been one of the music's industry most influential icons that had made essential contributions to the music world.

Aaliyah's death remains to be one of the music industry's most tragic and poignant tales - a story of a gifted girl gone far too soon.
