Following His VMA Date With Miley Cyrus, Jesse Helt Turns Himself In To Polk County Jail

On Thursday night in Salem, Oregon, following his VMA date with singer Miley Cyrus, Jesse Helt, the homeless man who accepted the award on the show on the singer's behalf, turned himself in to the Polk County Jail.

Jesse Helt, Miley Cyrus' VMA date, was put under the spotlight last weekend as he was seen with the singer during the show. He continued to be under the media's attention after several celebrity news sites learned that there was an unsettled warrant for Jesse Helt's arrest in Oregon for probation violation, curtailing from preceding charges including criminal trespassing and mischief.   

According to Sheriff Bob Wolfe, Jesse Helt, the 22-year old homeless man who was Miley Cyrus' VMA date, turned himself in at the Polk County Community Corrections in Dallas, Oregon on an unresolved warrant for probation violation and was booked around thirty minutes past eight in the evening. The sheriff also said that the bail was $25,000 and that Jesse Helt was allowed to post ten percent of the bail which was $2,500.

Miley Cyrus' VMA date Jesse Helt will be expected to appear before a judge in about two weeks per the statement issued by Corrections Director Martin Silbernagel to USA Today. Jesse Helt was a former West Salem High School student before he was shoved under the spotlight in national television by Miley Cyrus.  

After their meeting at My Friend's Place shelter for homeless youths in Los Angeles last week, Jesse Helt, Miley Cyrus' VMA date, was selected by the singer to accompany her to the show and give an acceptance speech on her behalf after her "Wrecking Ball" music video was hailed as MTV VMA's Video of the Year.

When Jesse Helt's legal history was revealed, Miley Cyrus was quick to defend her VMA date on social media. She tweeted, "People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included." The 21-year old even asked if looking down upon the homeless help excuse their inaction.

Miley Cyrus encouraged her fans to sojourn obsessing over one homeless man's legal issue instead help the other 1.6 million homeless youth through her charity contest with Prizeo. Fans can enter to win a trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and VIP tickets to her Bangerz concert on September 28 for just a small donation.

Miley Cyrus continues to campaign on helping homeless youth regardless of the circumstances that happen to Jesse Helt, her VMA date, after turning himself in to the Polk County Jail.
