Another big retailer corporation has been the latest target of a data breach. Dairy Queen becomes the latest hack attack victim and now the company is striking back.
On the wake of mass hacking, Dairy Queen made cyberspace history as the latest victim of a hack attack. The fast food chain known for its hot fries and soft-serve ice cream, has revealed that customer data at some of its branches are at risk for data breach.
As per Dairy Queen, they reported that the probable data breach is connected to the Backoff point of sale malware that rake over Target through embers last year. Target recently revealed the breach cost its shareholders $148 million. However, there's no sign that Dairy Queen was hit that tough.
Dairy Queen has found their company the unlucky victim of hacking. The fast food chain have joined the cavalcade of retailers like Target and Home Depot, who have had their digital supply chain compromised, namely their point of sale systems by mischievous software.
Dairy Queen announced that some of its stores will be going cash only after the company suffered from data breach to support bounds for any risk to consumer data. Dairy Queen reported that a small portion of its 4,500 US stores were affected, but never specify how many or which stores will need to go cash.
Through a statement, Dairy Queen said that they are promptly cooperating with the authorities investigating the specific malware in communicating with possible affected franchised locations, credit card processors and companies to gather pertinent information. Dairy Queen also said that they continue to converse with their franchisees and service providers concerning steps essential to safeguard customer data and minimize any impact to their valued customers.
Minneapolis Dairy Queen Store operator Jon Fors said that they were not affected by the data breach and franchise owners have been on high alert to protect customer information after the Target breach last year.
As the hack attack continues on cyberspace, retailers and consumers should be vigilant as the hackers are getting better and smarter in targeting loopholes on its defenses. High alert precautionary measures should always be practiced to avoid becoming a victim of hacking and data breaches.
