Convicted murderer and prime suspect in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in 2005, Joran van der Sloot shared a prevue of his life in the Peruvian Maximum Security Prison as he released a video of himself that he says for his own security. Joran van der Sloot and his wife Leidy Figueroa were also expecting their child this month.
Joran van der Sloot is a Dutch citizen and convicted murderer. He was the primary suspect in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway who disappeared in Aruba on May 30, 2005. He was also charged for the murder and robbery of Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, who was killed in Lima on May 30, 2010, five years after the Holloway incident. But now the convicted criminal is an expectant father as his wife is projected to give birth to their baby this September.
Joran van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of Peruvian Stephany Flores. He was also prosecuted by the federal grand jury in the United States for wire fraud and extortion related to Holloway's whereabouts. The Holloway and Flores cases both fascinated extensive media attention. Time Magazine proclaimed Joran van der Sloot's arrest as the 2010's top crime story. He was the focus of international news coverage from prison leading to controversies that resulted in the inquiry and suspension of several Peruvian officials.
Now, Joran van der Sloot is making headlines again as he recorded a video in which he exposed the conditions in his old cell, saying that it was Warden Sergio Haro who gave him the cellphone that was later sequestered. The 46-second video shows Joran van der Sloot leaning back, talking slowly and having his blood pressure taken and then being frolicked as he and other inmates face the wall with their arms up. The expectant father to his pregnant wife reportedly went on a hunger strike last week.
Last month, Joran van deer Sloot was relocated from Piedras Gordas penitentiary on the suburbs of Lima to the Challapalca Maximum Security Prison, a 15,700-feet altitude facility where he was sent after purportedly starting a bout with another inmate in the Lima prison and then intimidating to kill the warden.
Two months ago, Joran van der Sloot married his Peruvian girlfriend in a prison ceremony and is set to be a father this September as her wife is expected to give birth soon. When his sentence ends, he is to be repatriated to the US to face trial on charges he extracted and swindled Holloway's mother. Joran van der Sloot still remains the prime suspect on the case.
