Though Zara Phillips-Tindall is well-known for her riding skills and Prince Harry is famous for his penchant for polo, the royal cousins together with other celebrities took part in an energetic practice session of murderball to promote the Invictus Games for wounded, sick and injured military personnel from 13 nations.
Prince Harry teamed up with his cousin Zara and the England World Cup winner Jason Robinson to take a team featuring Zara's husband Mike Tindall and Olympic medalists Dame Kelly Holmes and Denise Lewis for a robust murderball match in front of a 7,000-strong crowd at the Copper Box Arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London.
Prince Harry's cousin 33-year old Zara Phillips-Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall, 35-year old proved that all is fair in love and war as they contrived to beat each other on the court at the Invictus Games.
Team Invictus includes Prince Harry and Zara Phillips-Tindall; it was managed by another England rugby star, Jonny Wilkinson, while their rivals, Team Endeavor were coached by Sir Clive Woodward, who steered England to rugby World Cup grandeur in 2003.
Prince Harry notched the first try for his Team Invictus side, drawing a thunderous cheer from the spectators, and then Mike Tindall advanced getting on the score sheet for Team Endeavor.
Zara Phillips-Tindall said that her cousin Prince Harry and husband Mike were able to go quicker because of their long arms. She also added that the Invictus Games have been fantastic and applauded her cousin for doing such an amazing job for bringing the sport over to the UK.
The exhibition game was presented as a curtain raiser for the murderball final completion, a mêlée between mixed sex teams from Great Britain and the USA. Earlier in the day David Cameron and Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, were seen in the crowd. Other famous spectators at the Games included Harry's Middleton relations, Pippa and James, who joined Peter and Autumn Phillips to see the rugby.
The Invictus Games, a project Prince Harry is ardent about, opened on Wednesday night with a ceremony that included a fly-past from the Red Arrows. The prince, who was applauded devotedly by servicemen during the event, was also recipients of cheers when he and the Duke of Cambridge arrived at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
Prince Harry, who organized the four-day nine-sport competition after seeing how wounded troops in the United States had helped rebuild their shattered lives by taking part in a similar Paralympic-style Warrior Games, has said he is thrilled by the crowds who have turned out to see the games.
Prior to the Invictus Games, a minicab driver and a police motorcyclist who was escorting Prince Harry to the games were involved in a crash on Prince Albert Road, London on Thursday morning. Scotland Yard said that both the driver and the police motorcyclist have been released from the hospital after the accident. Prince Harry was reportedly to have been shaken up after witnessing the crash.
As Prince Harry and his cousin Zara Phillips-Tindall mêlée in murderball at the Invictus Games, the royal cousins just proved their boundless camaraderie and enthusiasm in promoting the sport for a great cause.
