A World In Crisis: Is World War 3 Happening This 2014?
By Staff Reporter | Sep 29, 2014 09:03 AM EDT
Humanity and life are landscapes shaped by change. If there is a single element that is unifying them, it is the idea that changes are to life as the seasons are to earth. But as the world experiences crisis here and there, the looming dread for World War 3 this 2014 is threatening life, humanity and survival.
From the previous wars the world had experienced, we lost life and humanity along the way. But are these hostilities not enough to stop another impending belligerence? Today, the likelihood for any World War 3 could escalate to or even begin with a nuclear exchange. With the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis, the US-led airstrikes targeting ISIS in Iraq and the bellicose pre-democracy protests in Hong Kong, are these signs that another war will breakout this 2014?
This 2014 has been a challenging year to several nations struggling with economic, social and security crises. The world is at the height wherein killings and war were seemed to be the solutions to its problems. Life and humanity will be the cost however, is it really worth it? World War 3 does not only signify a war between superpower nations Ukraine and Russia. It does not only connote the rise of protests in Hong Kong, and it does not mean to just destroy and pulverize vicious ISIS militants.
World War 3 is dreaded to happen this 2014 when Russian President Vladimir Putin recently threatened EU administration that they could conquer many capitals in the next few days. Russia has also purportedly continues supporting pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine. Russia also issued an intense attack on the US and NATO at the UN General Assembly.
While Russia-Ukraine crisis is ongoing, another global issue that the world is facing is the fight against ISIS militants in Syria and Iraq. Airstrikes and drones are targeting the barbaric extremists to stop the terrorists' brutality and control. The Pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong that intensified last week were also one of the factors that may trigger conflicts in different parts of the globe.
But the much greater issue is: Is the world ready for a World War 3? Are wars the only solutions to remedy these conflicts? The world is already full enough of pains, sufferings and misfortunes and the looming war this 2014 will just multiply them. Every weapon that is made, every warship and airstrike launched, every nuclear rocket fired signifies the concluding rationality. And a war is never a solution; it will just lead to the destruction of civilization.
Just the thought and the mention of World War 3 sends chills down the spines of many, fears and dread to those who are powerless, and desolation to those who still hopes for a better and war-free world. We should remember that the world does not revolve and exist neither with money alone nor with nuclear weapons nor who reigns supreme and powerful. Our domain is with humanity and life. The impending war this 2014 does not determine who is right, but only who will be left after the battle.
The contour of life's landscape is an aide-mémoire that humanity is varied as the soils that fill the earth. Some are delicate as sand and some are resilient as clay. Despite the diversity of humanity, however, the way we shape our lives and our destinies lies in our own hands. And it is not only Russia, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Iraq and Syria that are suffering and affected. The whole world is in crisis as well as we fear the forthcoming possibility for a World War 3 this 2014.
World War 3 2014 is not a way of life at all in any sagacity. And beneath the billows of war, it is civilization that is hanging on an iron cross.
