Joan Rivers Lawsuit - Melissa Rivers, the only offspring of the late legendary comedian Joan Rivers, is planning to take the Manhattan hospital where her mother died in September to court for its involvement in the death of the beloved star.
There had been many rumors that there was an impending lawsuit after reports surfaced that the late Ms. Rivers' personal doctor - Dr. Gwen Korovin - took a selfie with the patient while she was under anesthesia. The veteran otolaryngologist, whose nickname the "patron saint of Broadway singers and actor" betrays her star-studded clientele, is also alleged to have not been authorized to practice in the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic. But reports indicate that Ms. Rivers personally brought her along to join in the procedure.
Officials are currently investigating the death of Ms. Rivers. It is unclear if the doctor is also being probed and will be hit with a lawsuit. According to the Daily Mail, Dr. Korovin is still in practice. Inside sources say reports Ms. Rivers passed on during a laryngoscopy procedure on her by Dr. Korovin after Yorkville's Dr. Lawrence Cohen, who was heading the checkup, found something was wrong with the patient's vocal cords.
Reports indicate that the 81-years old TV presenter sought treatment with the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic in late August after complaining of hoarseness. But there were some complications during the procedure leading to swelling in her throat region and eventually precipitating a cardiac arrest. Although she was rushed to the Mount Sanai Hospital in New York and managed to survive for about a week on life support, she was officially declared dead on the 4th of September.
The Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic has later come out to disclose that no biopsy was performed on Ms. Rivers before the fatal operation on her. There are some reports that Dr. Cohen has been discharged from the health facility.
Meanwhile, the legal representative of Dr. Korovin, Abraham S. Kelton, has released a statement justifying his clients' silence about the circumstances surrounding the death of Ms. Rivers.
"Gwen S. Korovin, M.D. is a highly experienced, board certified otolaryngologist. She maintains privileges at one of the city's most prestigious hospitals...As a matter of personal and professional policy, Dr. Korovin does not publicly discuss patients or their care and treatment," the statement reads.
