Wayne Brady breakdown - Actor and comedian Wayne Brady on Monday revealed that he had been suffering from clinical depression for many years.
Wayne Brady's breakdown was reported by Entertainment Tonight's Wayne Turner. "Folks think, well, Wayne Brady's always happy, No I'm not always happy. Because I'm human," the 42-year-old comedian, known for his wit and humor, said.
"Having a bad day is one thing, having a bad week is another, having a bad life...You don't want to move, you can't move in the darkness," he revealed.
The Emmy-award winner explains that sometimes he feels like just wallowing in his condition. Wayne Brady also revealed that he constantly doubts himself and was in a very bad condition during his 42nd birthday in June.
"I was there by myself, in my bedroom and I had a complete breakdown...Just go ahead and imagine for yourself a brother in his underwear, in his room, you got snot...and that birthday was the beginning of, OK, I've got to make a change," he said.
Wayne Brady's breakdown comes after the shocking death of veteran actor and comedian Robin Williams. The troubled actor revealed that he decided to seek help after hearing about his colleague's death. The late Williams also suffered from depression in silence prior to his taking his own life.
Wayne Brady disclosed that his ex-wife Mandie Taketa has helped him with his condition for years. He attributed his recovery to her and says they remain close friends even after their divorce in 2007.
The actor also noted that Hollywood treats depression different from how it does drug abuse.
"It's actually cool to go into rehab for some people...But if someone says, 'I'm clinically depressed,' that sounds like someone's making something up. IT'S LIKE, 'Psst, you're not depressed," Wayne Brady said.
After Wayne Brady's breakdown, the actor revealed that it took him a while to put himself together.
"You know what? If you're not happy, you have to do something about it" he advised. "Just admitting that you are feeling this way is a huge step. To claim that, to say, 'Why do I feel dark? Why do I feel unhappy? Let me do something about this."
Wayne Brady's breakdown about his condition has inspired Sharon Osbourne to reveal details of her own battle with depression for about 15 years. Experts say cases of depression are rampant in Hollywood, but the patients choose to suffer in silence in fear of stigmatization.
