As reported on Friday, the British authorities thwarted an alleged plot to kill Queen Elizabeth II. According to UK's The Sun, four Islamic terrorists had devised a murderous plan to stab the 88-year-old Queen of England.

The four Islamic terror suspects were considered to have plotted a knife attack on Queen Elizabeth II ahead on Remembrance Day. In a Yahoo! News report, the plot to kill the British monarch was uncovered by secret intelligence agency MI5. The Queen and British Prime Minister David Cameron were both informed of the potential threat.

The British police discovered the plot to kill Queen Elizabeth II by the four Islamic terror suspects, ranging in age from 19 to 27, and conducted multiple raids in West London and Buckinghamshire to foil their plan. The New York Post said the assassins intended to stab the queen Friday as the nation celebrated 96 years since the end of World War I but the suspects were arrested the night before in separate raids.

Despite the plots to kill her, Queen Elizabeth II insisted that she will carry on with the tradition and will attend the Remembrance festivities as planned. The Daily Mail said the monarch will still lay the first wreath to "The Glorious Dead" following the two-minute silence.

"Whatever the security assessment, Her Majesty would not shirk from her responsibility and duty - and this Remembrance Sunday is no different," a source told The Sun.

The police had already tightened the security after a terrorist shot a soldier guarding a war memorial at Canada's parliament. Although the authorities would not discuss whether the suspects had a specific target, the timing of the raids sparked fears of a Remembrance Day outrage.

While the Islamic State militants have called on "self-starter" followers to target high-profile commemorative events, the plot to kill Queen Elizabeth II is not the first time for the British government.

During the separate raids, the police gunmen from its S015 terrorism command arrested the youngest suspect on Thursday night at the home he shares with his mother in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He is said to have recently returned from Pakistan. Fourteen minutes after the arrest, a 22-year-old was seized by armed officers at a house in Hounslow.

The eldest suspect was stopped at gunpoint in his car in Southall, West London, but no shots were fired. While, the fourth man was arrested in Uxbridge and searches were taking place in Greenford and Hayes, also in West London.

The suspects were all arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the command, preparation or initiation of terrorism acts.

In 1987, eleven people were killed and 68 wounded when the IRA bombed the memorial in Ennis Killen, Northern Ireland during the Remembrance Day.

There are increasing concerns that British jihadists fighting in Syria and Iraq will return to the nation and launch acts of terrorism. However, detectives do not believe there is any direct connection between the latest arrests and fanatics in the Middle East. Prime Minister David Cameron also ordered a security review last month after the Canadian attack.

Because of the plots to kill Queen Elizabeth II, heads of MI5 and Scotland Yard convened talks over the terror threat to Parliament and other landmarks in central London.
