China launched its first website aimed at development of farmers on 24 March. The website will provide the latest technological advancements in the field of farming and a lot more for innovative grassroots organisations among farmers. As many as 1,33,000 such organisations with 11 million members operate in China.
These organisations remain a key front for providing services to farmers and improving people's livelihoods in rural areas, Xu Yanhao, an official with the China Association for Science and Technology, said at a meeting of 300 rural technology experts, according to the Indo Asian News Service.
China has spent 1.5 billion yuan (about $167 million) since 2006 to reward organisations providing agricultural technology support in rural areas.
