Actress Brooke Shields revealed in her new memoir that Andre Agassi smashed his tennis trophies in a jealous rage during their relationship. The incident that caused the tennis player's anger was when Shields made a cameo appearance in the US sitcom "Friends" in 1995.
In Brooke Shields' memoir, "There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me," the 49-year-old actress revealed that Andre Agassi apparently has some jealousy issues. According to The Los Angeles Times, a certain scene on the sitcom "Friends" where she was a guest caused Agassi to fly in a fit of fury and destroy several of his tennis trophies, including his 1992 Wimbledon victory and 1994 US Open triumph.
The scene that offended Andre Agassi that caused him to destroy his championship trophies was when Brooke Shields guested on "Friends" and played an obsessive soap-opera fan then licked the hand of actor Matt Leblanc, who played the character of Joey, and threw her head back with maniacal laughter.
In Brooke Shields memoir, the actress wrote that during the "offensive" scene, Andre Agassi was on the sound stage in Los Angeles. The Daily Mail reported the Wimbledon champ stormed off the set and subsequently drove all the way back to his Las Vegas home. He told Shields the scene "made him look like a fool.
"Upon arrival he systematically smashed and destroyed every single trophy he had won, including Wimbledon and the US Open," Shields wrote.
Brooke Shields also revealed it took her three years to have all Andre Agassi's trophies replaced after the 1995 incident.
In spite of the jealousy issues that made the tennis player smashed his trophies, Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi tied the knot in April 1997. However, the actress revealed she realized she make a "mistake" just a day after the wedding.
"I could not form a sentence. I kept shaking my head as if I had duct tape across my mouth. It hit me all of a sudden - I knew I had made a mistake. I did not want to be married... I wanted to be a bride but I shouldn't have been married yet," Shields revealed.
For much of the couple's marriage, Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi were busy working apart and said the relationship was "just existing." And eventually, the couple divorced just before their second anniversary.
In the span of his 20-year career, 44-year-old Andre Agassi has won the Wimbledon singles title in 1995 and went on to claim four Australian Open titles, two US Opens and the French Open. However, the esteemed tennis champ is no stranger to controversy. Agassi had admitted to taking crystal meth during his incredible tennis career.
After the jealousy rage that made Andre Agassi destroyed his tennis trophies and the couple's divorce, the ex-couple moved on with their respective lives. In 2001, Brooke Shields married writer Chris Henchy with whom she has two children while Andre Agassi married fellow tennis player Steff Graff.
