Boy falls from Bodega Head - A 4 years old boy who fell more than 200 feet off a cliff at Bodega Head has been rescued after landing on a rocky beach.
The boy, whose identity has not been revealed, is said to have suffered multiple traumatic injuries and has been rushed via an ambulance to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Reports from fire fighters who rescued the boy that fell down Bodega Head say he is in a stable but critical condition.
The boy and his family are reported to have been visiting the coast when the sad incident occurred. The boy was reportedly throwing rocks when he fell. Meanwhile, his siblings and parents were at Bodega Head before his accidental fall.
Reports indicate that it was only after the boy's mother had noticed his absence that his family began to suspect something might have happened to him.
A distress call is said to have been quickly made to the Bodega Bay Fire Department. And after a brief search, the team of rescuers, including fire and emergency crews, found the boy lying underneath the 230-foot-cliff.
Personnel from the California State Parks, the California Highway Patrol as well as the U.S Coast Guard are reported to have also responded to the call and worked together to rescue the boy who fell down Bodega Head.
Firefighter rescue officers Marco Barros and Josh Perucchi were carefully lowered down the cliff. They carried a rescue basket with them. The firefighters are reported to have used flares shot from a Coast Guard motor lifeboat to create visibility to enable them find the boy.
The officers say the boy, who fell down Bodega Head, was found awake and crying. He was carefully carried into the ambulance and transported to hospital. "The child was conscious and alert, obviously crying which was completely appropriate for the injuries that he had sustained," Bodega Bay Fire Protection District Fire Chief Sean Grinnell said.
