Adrian Peterson fantasy - The NFL has announced the suspension of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement emphasized that Adrian Peterson's return to the league can only be considered after April 2015. The player will not receive his salary during the duration of his suspension. Reports indicate that Adrian Peterson could lose up to $4.2 million if the decision stands.
Commissioner Roger Goodell explained his ruling to the estranged athlete in a letter. "The timing of your potential reinstatement will be based on the results of the counseling and treatment program set forth in this decision. Under this two-step approach, the precise length of the suspension will depend on your actions," he wrote.
"We are prepared to put in place a program that can help you succeed. But no program can succeed without your genuine and continuing engagement. You must commit yourself to your counseling and rehabilitative effort, property care for your children, and have no further violations of law or league policy," he further stated.
The 29 years old player, who has been accused of abusive discipline in a case involving his 4-year-old son, can appeal against the NFL's decision within three days. Many pundits say Adrian Peterson is likely to appeal against his suspension. If he chooses this route, Adrian Peterson may continue to receive his usual salary while the case is still in court.
It is however unclear if Roger Goodell will accept the appeal. Reports indicate that if he does, the league would simply act as a neutral arbitrator in the process.
"We call on the NFL Management Council to show our players and our sponsors leadership by committing to collective bargaining so a fair personal conduct policy can be implemented as quickly as possible," the NFL Players Association said in a statement.
The association described the ruling of Commissioner Roger Goodell in Adrian Peterson's case as an example of the "credibility gap" between the agreements and actions in the league.
Meanwhile, the Vikings has released a statement regarding the decision to suspend the player. "The NFL has informed the Vikings of today's decision regarding Adrian Peterson. We respect the league's decision and will have no further comment at this time," it said.
Adrian Peterson Fantasy picks have dwindled in light of the news about his suspension for the remaining six weeks of the season. Adrian Peterson fantasy picks are expected to be replaced by Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata.
