Maria Jose Alvarado's Facebook page has announced the death of the 19-year-old beauty queen, as well as that of her sister Sofia Trinidad, 23.

It has been about a week since the two girls disappeared after reportedly attending Trinidad's boyfriend Plutarco Ruiz's birthday party in Santa Barbara, northwestern Honduras.

On Wednesday, Honduras Police announced that the bodies of the two ladies have been found near a river in a remote part of the country.

Police say Ruiz has confessed to shooting his girlfriend and then Maria Jose Alvarado, before burying them with the help of an accomplice. According to the suspect, he shot his girlfriend during an argument over the fact that she had been dancing with another man at his birthday party. He then shot Miss Honduras as she tried to flee from him.

The mother of Maria Jose Alvarado and Trinidad - Teresa Munoz - has told the press that the suspect called her on the morning of the murder, and sounded nervous on the phone. The accomplice of Ruiz - Aris Malsonado - has also been taken into custody.

The murder of Miss Honduras and her sister has been condemned by many people. The beauty queen was reportedly scheduled to travel to London to partake in the Miss World Pageant on Wednesday - the same day her body was found wrapped in brown plastic. Eduardo Zablah, the Honduran Miss World Pageant organizer, says there will be no representative from the country in the competition this year.

"I was so saddened this morning when the news of the murders of Maria Jose and Sofia. RIP sweet souls. You're both in my prayers," a fan writes on Maria Jose Alvarado Facebook's page.

Maria Jose Alvarado Facebook's page has announced that the nation is mourning her death. "Two beautiful girls with a great future ahead of them were truncated by the evil of a person without heart," the message reads

Maria Jose Alvarado's mother says her daughters were not very street smart."They were not very astute about assessing the people around them. They were just friendly," she said.

Maria Jose Alvarado Facebook's page seems to have been created after she disappeared.
