Maryland lottery officials said early Saturday that the Mega Millions lottery ticket with numbers 46, 23, 38, 4, 2 and megaball 23 was sold in their state.

Someone in Maryland is about to become rich with the largest lottery jackpot prize of $640 million this weekend!

However, it wasn't immediately clear who the lucky ticket holder is and whether that person would get sole possession of the whopping $640-million prize.

According to Carole Everett, director of communications for the Maryland Lottery, the winning Mega Millions ticket was purchased at a retailer in Baltimore County, Maryland.

Everett said that it was too early to know any information about the ticket-holder. In 2008, the state had won a major national jackpot of $24 million, she added.

"This is truly remarkable and historic. We can't wait to greet the winner of this world-record setting jackpot," said Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino.

However, officials are waiting for information from other "Mega Millions states." The Mega Millions game is played in 44 states and jurisdictions.

National lottery officials were expecting to upload the list of the number of winning tickets sold and also from which states they were sold on their website early Saturday, but Maryland lottery officials have already sent out the news release to media organizations and have called them hours before the scheduled announcement.

The mega millions has rolled 18 times without a winner and has been growing since Jan. 24. The jackpot prize rose from $540 million to $640 million earlier today.

However, if no ticketholder claims the winning number, Friday night, then the lottery prize will shoot up to $975 million for next Tuesday's draw.

"Friday night's Mega Millions drawing will truly be a spectacular event in lottery history and provides an unprecedented opportunity for players to take a chance on a half-billiondollar dream for just the $1 price of a ticket," said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery and lead director for the Mega Millions group.
