Phillip Hughes Stats: Precocious Cricketer Dies At 25 After Failing To Regain Consciousness

Phillip Hughes Stats - Precocious Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes was knocked unconscious by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Nov. 25, 2014. The injury caused vertebral artery dissection that led to a brain hemorrhage. Hughes died at the age of 25 on Nov. 27 after having failed to regain consciousness.

Phillip Hughes was an Australian Test and One-Day International (ODI) cricketer who played domestic cricket for South Australia and Worcestershire. He was a left-handed batsman who had a remarkable stats and who played for two seasons with New South Wales before making his Test debut at the age of 20.

At a young age of 19, Phillip Hughes underscored why he was one of the most exciting young talents with incredible stats around when he became the youngest to score in a Pura Cup or Sheffield Shield final. Just months before his death, ESPN Cric Info said that Australia captain Michael Clarke had tipped him to be a 100-Test man.     

After a sickening blow from a short ball during a Shield game, Phillip Hughes was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he underwent surgery. He was put into an induced coma and was in intensive care in a critical condition. Because of his injuries, he never regained consciousness and died. He was 25.

A statement was released by Cricket Australia on Thursday afternoon that Australian cricketer with outstanding stats, Phillip Hughes had died at St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

"He never regained consciousness following his injury on Tuesday," Australian team doctor Peter Brukner said. "He was not in pain before he passed and was surrounded by his family and close friends."

"As a cricket community we mourn his loss and extend our deepest sympathies to Phillip's family and friends at this incredibly sad time," the statement added. "Cricket Australia kindly asks that the privacy of the Hughes family, players and staff be respected."

Meanwhile, questions about the response time of the dispatched ambulances were also raised. Yahoo! Cricket reported the head of the New South Wales Ambulance was to be hauled before the state health minister Jillian Skinner on Thursday. The move came after the ambulance authority issued conflicting statements about their response times.

Philip Hughes was an exceptional talent with notable stats from whom Australian cricket expected huge things. He died after being hit by a bouncer three days before his twenty-sixth birthday on Nov. 30.
