Beverly Hills shooting - Just before 4:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon, a Beverly Hills police officer shot a suspected bank robber inside the lobby of the renowned Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel.

Authorities say after the Beverly Hills shooting, the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was transported via ambulance to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.  

Reports indicate that the robbery started around 4 p.m. at a Bank of America branch off Rodeo Drive. The suspect is alleged to have entered the bank; announcing that he is armed and commanding the teller to load a bag full of cash.

Lt. Lincoln Hoshino, spokesman for the Bravely Hills Police Department, said an accomplice was shot and arrested outside the bank. Authorities have reportedly been able to identify the man who escaped with the bag of money which had a GPS tracker fitted in.

The Beverly Hills shooting occurred shortly after police traced the bank robbery accomplice to the lobby of the Luxe Hotel. Authorities say the suspect was armed with a handgun and was trying to hide in the hotel lobby.

"Officers responded to the Luxe Hotel. Made entry to the location and immediately engaged the suspect just inside the doorway," Hoshino said.

According to local sources, the suspect was rushed to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Authorities have not disclosed how many officers were involved in the Beverly Hills shooting.  However, it is clear that no police officer was injured.

Reports indicate that prior to the Beverly Hills shooting, authorities closed down Rodeo Drive while searching for the suspect. Rodeo Drive remained on lockdown for hours between Wiltshire and Santa Monica.

The Luxe Hotel has not officially released a statement concerning the Beverly Hills shooting that occurred in its lobby.
