Another major signing may be happening in the UFC.
After Reebok's six-year mega deal with the world's most prominent mixed martial arts Promotion Company, the UFC is now looking to get in touch with former WWE champion and superstar CM Punk.
Punk, whose real name is Phillip Brooks, cut his ties with the World Wrestling Entertainment, citing irreconcilable differences with the company's chairman and CEO Vince McMahon. The two have apparently shared a strained business relationship for a number of years already, as Punk revealed them in detail during an interview this past week at Colt Cabana's "Art of Wrestling" podcast.
During their conversation, Punk detailed McMahon's alleged favoritism towards other fighters, which he claims is one of the reasons why he opted to leave the company that made him into a household name for six years now.
According to the 36-year old former professional wrestler, he was looking to bring in a huge sum of money to the company through sponsorships, after a successful promotional effort.
"I got all these new eyes on the product, and he says 'nope, you can't do that," he said. "Sponsors for Raw would get mad, the other wrestlers would get mad.' A year later, Brock Lesnar comes back, and the mother-f***** has sponsors."
Punk also says that while being a WWE superstar and champion did bring him a huge amount of success, it did not really bring the fulfillment that he was wanting for himself.
"I thought this thing that I loved, that I thought I loved, it just made me so miserable all the time," he explained. "When you boil it all down, I was miserable. I was unhappy."
Now a free agent, Punk is free to go wherever he wishes to. Coincidentally, UFC president Dana White expressed his intent to reach out to him for a possible deal with the UFC, in a report by TMZ.
Apart from his WWE stint, Punk is also an avid mixed martial arts fan, and is currently training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Rener Gracie of the renowned Gracie family in Torrance, California.
And while White is not sure if Punk can still compete with MMA's elite at 36 years of age, he is still open to do business with him.
"I don't know if he can fight or anything like that," said White. "But sure, I wouldn't mind talking to CM Punk."
