According to the New York Daily News, Isles, a volunteer storm spotter for the National Weather Service, was struck hours after buying the tickets for the record-setting $656 million lottery drawn on Friday.
Isles was on his ham radio in his backyard when he was hit by lightning. The Daily News reported that he was checking for storm activity around 9:30 p.m. the day when the bolt hit the ground nearby.
"It threw me to the ground quivering," Isles, 48, told Reuters. "It kind of scrambled my brain and gave me an irregular heartbeat."
He didn't suffer any burns or serious injuries.
Isles told Reuters that, "I've got a better chance of getting struck by lightning" than winning the jackpot.
According to KCTV5, the odds of being hit by lightning are one in 835,000 while the odds of winning the Mega Millions lottery jackpot are one in 175 million.
The three lucky Mega Millions ticket holders are from Maryland, Illinois and Kansas.
