'Smokey' Trans Am - A vehicle owned by famous actor Burt Reynolds and used to promote his 70s comedy box office hit 'Smokey and the Bandit' has sold for about $450,000 at an auction in Las Vegas, NV this past week.
The 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Coupe, which would definitely need some garage work, is branded with the name 'Bandit' on the driver's door. The vehicle has a 400 cid Pontiac V-8 engine and a 4-barrel carburetor. It also comes with a golden tag, branded with the words '1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds.'
Although the 'Smokey' Trans Am was not the only memorabilia related to the movie on auction, it attracted the highest bids. Some of the other items sold include apparels from the movie, Burt Reynold's awards and other personal items.
"Burt Reynolds is a legend who is loved all over the world," Darren Julien, the head of Julien Auctions, who handled the trade of the 'Smokey' Trans Am and other memorabilia, said. "His collection which was full of iconic piece of career memorabilia and personal items once again proves to be a solid investment with bidders who attended the auction from every corner of the globe this week."
Despite not featuring more prominently in Hollywood as he did in the past, Burt Reynolds continues to be popular among fans. The sale of the 'Smokey' Trans Am has shed more light on his lingering influence. Reports indicate that Julien Auctions had originally valued the vehicle for about $80,000.
Although the $450k 'Smokey' Trans Am was not actually in the Smokey and the Bandits movie, it is the closest fans will get to drive an automobile directly associated with the famous flick. Smokey and the Bandits is a comedy movie about how a group of criminals attempt to smuggle alcohol past state troopers into Georgia.
