New York Leg Lamp - In what has been described as a daring, and at the same time spirit-dampening, move, a New York man has stolen a Christmas leg lamp on display in a local store.

The stolen New York leg lamp is a replica of the famous lamp won by Ralphie's father Mr. Parker (or 'The Old Man') in the 80's classic comedy movie A Christmas Story.

Surveillance footage shows the unidentified New York leg lamp thief as he makes his way into the Yankee Spirits Liquor shop in New Tonawanda with both arms in his pocket. Looking suspicious, the thief, who was wearing a gray hooded shirt and donning dark shades, looks around the store momentarily before he proceeds to unplug the lamp and hurriedly make his way out of the shop with it.

The management of the store, who released the footage, has called on the public to help identify the suspect.

Gary Brennan, the owner of the liquor shop, who is also a big fan of the 80's Christmas movie, says he has been displaying memorabilia from the movie, which he gathered over some years, for well over a decade every Christmas season. This is the first time something like this has apparently happened and Brennan says even some of his customers are peeved at the killjoy thief.

"Why do you want to steal a part of Christmas?" he asks. "Steal a bottle of vodka - I won't feel nearly as bad."

Brennan told the NY Post that the New York leg lamp thief had a getaway car ad a driver waiting for him outside, which he used to flee the scene.

The stolen New York leg lamp is estimated to be valued between $250 and $300. While Brennan could easily buy a new lace-strapped leg lamp online, he has noted that the goal is to curb any chance of the crime being repeated.
