"The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" originally has a release date scheduled on Jan. 30, 2015 but it was moved to Jan. 2, making it the first winter horror movie of the year. The film is a sequel to the 2012 movie, "The Woman in Black," which starred "Harry Potter" actor Daniel Radcliffe.

"The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" is a 2015 British horror film directed by Tom Harper with a story by Susan Hill and produced by Hammer Film Productions and Entertainment One. According to About.com, the film depicted the tale set in the period of the World War II where London was stormed by bombs during Germany's Blitz bombing campaign against the UK.

For their safety, schoolteachers Eve Parkins (Phoebe Fox) and Jean Hogg (Helen McCrory) evacuated a group of schoolchildren to the British countryside and was taken to an old and empty estate, Eel Marsh House. However as soon as they arrive Eve, with the help of local military commander Harry Burnstow (Jeremy Irvine) discover that the group has awakened a dark force that is more terrifying and evil than the war.

"The Woman in Black" movie in 2012 is the most successful British horror film with over £80 million earnings at the global box office, BBC News reported. That's why its 2015 sequel, "The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" seems to be facing some pressure for a box office success. However, if the first film featured Daniel Radcliffe, the sequel takes a new direction without the "Harry Potter" actor.

"Mainly because his [Daniel Radcliffe] character dies," Hammer Films CEO and producer Simon Oakes said.

Meanwhile, "The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death' has received mixed reviews from critics. According to Screen Rant, the sequel is a "little more than a hollow cash grab." Most critics were also underwhelmed by the movie with some saying the film was mostly not scary. It also fails to satisfactorily develop on a single setup, which only delivered brief parts of spookiness and some unimpressive character drama, rather than provoking scares.

"'The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death' is atmospheric and visually sharp, but it's short on tension and scares," Rotten Tomatoes' consensus said.

Aside from "The Woman in Black" sequel, other 2015 films are also expected to hit theaters this season. And since January and February are the months of the slowest box office, movies such as Liam Neeson's "Taken 3," Bradley Cooper's "American Sniper," Jennifer Lopez's "The Boy Next Door," Jason Statham's "Wild Card," and the most-anticipated "Fifty Shades of Grey" are predicted to rock the box office during this weak winter season, the Examiner reported.

For now, it seems that "The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" is just another example that not all successful horror movies have what it takes to become profitable horror franchises.
