Ohio State cheerleader Ally Nelson was lucky to escape without injuries and carry out her cheerleading duties after she tripped on a flag and fell as the Buckeyes players charged from the tunnel at the A&T Stadium in the beginning of the week.
At the start of the Buckeyes 42-20 victory over Oregon Ducks on Monday, many fans would have noticed that the team's traditional O-H-I-O flag was not complete - the 'O' was missing.
Reports indicate that the missing 'O' flag had been mistakenly dropped during the team's tunnel exit. Ohio State cheerleader Ally Nelson reportedly tripped on the flag and fell as she was charging out with the players.
Getty Images photographer Tom Pennington catches the crucial moments as Nelson falls on the ground and tries to crawl out of the way before being trampled by the approaching players. A male cheerleader, who reportedly dropped the flag, is seen running back to save Nelson as Buckeyes #91 Aaron Nelson skips over her.
A couple of players tripped over Nelson and fell, but the senior, who graduated from Hilliard Davidson High School, was quick to crawl out of the way of the players.
According to ESPN, the commotion involving the Ohio State cheerleader was due to the team's unfamiliarity with the stadium. Apparently, the OSU Spirits Team (the Buckeyes cheerleading squad) and the Buckeyes football players do not usually come out of the tunnel at the same time. However, on that night, due to a mix-up, they happened to run out of the tunnel simultaneously.
After the game, Nelson, who participated in the cheerleading routine, was seen taking pictures with fans. The game that saw her almost killed and also saw the Buckeyes win the national championship, is reportedly Nelson's final game as a cheerleader with the school.
The OSU Spirits Team later tweeted to confirm that Nelson is doing alright. "Our Cheerleader is ok. Just a miscommunication with the team ranout and the producers but everyone is ready for the second half!"
