Michael Moore, who has an estimated net worth of $50 million, has recently sparked social media controversy after his "snipers are cowards" post on Twitter. CNN reported his much-criticized tweet came Sunday as the Oscar-nominated biopic about a former Navy SEAL and sharpshooter, "American Sniper," topped the weekend box office.
Michael Moore is an American director, producer and writer who has a $50 million net worth, as listed by The Richest. He is also an author, journalist and liberal political activist. He's the Academy Award-winning documentary director behind the biggest movies of all times such as "Bowling For Columbine", "Fahrenheit 911″ and "Capitalism A Love Story."
Michael Moore's net worth is currently making headlines after he was under fire for his controversial tweet about Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper," a film based on the life of notorious Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, who have killed hundreds while on the job, Time Magazine cited. The film also features actor Bradley Cooper.
"My uncle killed by sniper in WW2," Moore's controversial tweet said. "We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse." It was then followed by another tweet, "But if you're on the roof of your home defending it from invaders who've come 7K miles, you are not a sniper, u are brave, u are a neighbor."
However, Michael Moore who earned most of his net worth value through his remarkable and highly-acclaimed works, explained his controversial tweets through a Facebook post on Monday. According to USA Today, the award-winning claimed his posts weren't about Eastwood's film. He also explained his perceptions about snipers and criticized the media for drawing a link to the "American Sniper" film.
"Lots of talk about snipers this weekend (the holiday weekend of a great man, killed by a sniper), so I thought I'd weigh in with what I was raised to believe about snipers..." Moore wrote on Facebook. "But Deadline Hollwood and the Hollywood Reporter turned that into stories about how I don't like Clint Eastwood's new film, 'American Sniper.' I didn't say a word about 'American Sniper' in my tweets."
Meanwhile, Moore's sentiments about Bradley Cooper's film were echoed by actor Seth Rogen where the latter compared the Academy Awards-nominated biopic to Nazi propaganda.
Despite the social media backlash caused by his tweets, Michael Moore's remarkable $50 million fortune, as listed by Celebrity Net Worth, seemed to be unaffected.
