The Boston authorities are currently taking the lead in the Boston's Brigham and Women Hospital shooting investigation. During a press conference, the police said the situation is under control and reported that the gunman has targeted the particular cardiologist.

"[The gunman] came into the hospital asking for this particular doctor," Evans said. "We don't know why. That's something we're looking into."

Evans also added that they are looking into the possible motive of the shooting. Furthermore, the commissioner revealed the shooter was not a doctor and did not appear to be the victim's patient.

"We're in the process of talking to witnesses, but it's leading us to believe there was something in the past that upset this guy, that made him go in and look for this particular doctor," Evans continued.

The Boston's Brigham and Women Hospital shooting incident happened in the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center, which is located at the second floor of the hospital. ABC News reported the victim was shot in the foyer between the waiting area and the examining area.

Meanwhile, Dr. Betsy Nable, the president of the hospital, denied to give any further details about the victim. The hospital did not have any metal detectors, but Nable said they will assess its safety protocols.
