Anderson Silva is a Brazilian MMA fighter with an estimated net worth of $18 million. He is a former UFC Middleweight champ who holds the longest defense title in UFC history. He is considered as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. However, Silva is currently facing some controversies after he tested positive for banned substances.

Anderson Silva's net worth is making headlines after reports claim that he tested positive for anabolic steroids upon his return to the Octagon in UFC 183 against Nick Diaz. According to Bleacher Report, Silva tested positive for drostanolone and androstane during an out-of-competition drug test performed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Both metabolites are prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Anderson Silva's positive drug test result was announced by UFC on Tuesday evening. The confidential result presented by the Sports Medicine Research & Testing Laboratory (SMRTL) was shared by Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports.

"On Feb. 3, 2015, the UFC organization was notified by the NSAC that Anderson Silva tested positive for drostanolone metabolites on his Jan. 9 out of competition drug test," UFC said through a released statement.

"Anderson Silva has been an amazing champion and a true ambassador of the sport of mixed martial arts and the UFC, in Brazil as well as around the world," the statement added. "UFC is disappointed to learn of these initial results."

However, it was not only Anderson Silva who tested positive for prohibited drugs. Inquirer.net reported Nick Diaz also tested positive for banned substances after he underwent a post-fight drug test. NSAC Chairman Francisco Aguilar said Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old Anderson Silva who has a remarkable career and net worth value, is rumored to be retiring after the positive drug test fallout. Yahoo! Sports reported he should have retired after breaking his leg in 2014 that caused a 13-month absence from the UFC.

Will the positive drug test result affect Anderson Silva's net worth? Maybe, but one thing that might suffer a great blow will be his career and legacy in the mixed martial arts world.

Because Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz tested positive for PEDs, both MMA fighters could face potential fines and suspension. While the sanction could be the third for Diaz, it will be a first for Silva since he never tested positive for any banned substance in his career that has spanned for almost two decades.

And though Celebrity Net Worth lists Anderson Silva's fortune as $18 million, The Richest only lists $10 million.
