Viral Video - "My Dad's Story: Dream for My Child" is a promotional ad of MetLife Hong Kong. It poignantly depicted the hardships and sacrifices experienced by a single father. But as it glorifies admirable dads, it fuels reactions on trying to knock great mothers down.
The three-minute-twenty-six-second video has a tagline, "You can't change your destiny, but you can create your own." The clip, which shows the exceptional bond of a father-and-daughter relationship, has now over 5 million views with more than 22,000 likes.
Though the video will definitely make you shed some tears, other viewers took it as a proof of gender inequality, in which fathers are more favored than mothers.
"When a single mother takes care of her kids, it's expected. But when a single father takes care of his kids, it's like he's the goddamned messiah..." one commented. Another wrote, "In an age where we are still 100% oppressed by patriarchal masculinity, the last thing we need is a reaffirmation of the bigoted, institutionalized system that favors men over women, and fathers over mothers."
