Gold Bars Stolen - Investigators in North Carolina are looking into an audacious robbery on northbound Interstate 95 this past Sunday where three robbers laid siege to an armored truck that was transporting precious metals and made away with 275 pounds of gold worth about $4.8 million.

The truck, which belongs to Miami-based transport company TranValue Inc., was reportedly moving precious metals packed in barrels from Florida to Massachusetts when the incident happened.

Two guards, who were in charge of the vehicle, told Wilson County investigators that the truck had developed a fault when they decided to pull over by the side of the road sometime after 6:00 p.m.. Shortly afterwards, the three robbers, who may be Hispanic, reportedly ambushed the guards with guns as they arrived in a white van.

Officials say they told the guards to lie on the floor and tied their hands behind them, before taking them thus bound to the woods nearby and returning to complete the heist.

It is unclear how the robbers were able to access the safe compartment of the TransValue armored truck, where the valuables had been kept. But authorities say the robbers did not take all the precious metals in the truck, apparently several bars of gold and silver were left behind.

At the moment there are no suspects. Reports indicate that the guards of the TransValue truck that was robbed are still in Wilson County and are assisting investigators with the case.

Meanwhile, the chief executive of TransValue Jay Rodriguez has revealed that the truck which the gold bars were stolen from was heading to 'Jewelry City' in Boston.

Rodriguez, who is reportedly on his way to Wilson County where the robbery occurred, has noted that the company is cooperating with the police on the case. He has further announced a reward of $50,000 for anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers.

According to the NY Daily News, the FBI has teamed up with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office to search for the robbers.
