Sea Lion Vs San Diego Man - A battle for survival. A man is still recovering from a traumatic experience involving a hungry sea lion.
According to San Diego officials, the unidentified man was bitten by a hungry sea lion recently while he was riding a boat in the Hyatt Mission Bay Marina just this Easter Sunday afternoon.
The sea lion reportedly bit the man's hand and pulled him off the boat and into the water in an attempt to satisfy his heavy appetite, reports NBC San Diego.
Apparently, the man was holding a fish to feed the sea lion when the latter quickly bit the fish and the man's arm and pulled the poor San Diego native underwater.
Authorities said the man was held by the sea creature underwater for almost 20 seconds, but he managed to hold his breath and he did not even take in any water.
The man suffered cuts on his hand and arm. Thus, the rescue team escorted him to Scripps La Jolla immediately after the incident.
Meanwhile, lifeguards who witnessed the incident claim that the 62-year-old San Diego man was posing for a photo when the sea lion bit his arm and pulled him down up to 20 feet.
"We estimated that he was in the water for 15 to 20 seconds. At that point, the sea lion let go and he was able to jump back into his boat," said one of the lifeguards.
Luckily for him, he managed to escape and rise up to the surface before the sea lion could make a meal out of him, reports CBS News.
Sources say the sea lion appeared to be a 300-pound one.
This is not the first time a sea lion vs man incident took place. In January, an Alaskan man was bitten by a sea lion on his behind while sitting on a boat, USA Today has learned.
