"Last week, with my husband by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma," Wilson, who took a leave of absence from the Broadway play "Fish in the Dark" earlier this month, revealed.

"I am recovering and most importantly, expected to make a full recovery," she added. "Why? Because I caught this early, have excellent doctors and because I got a second opinion."

Since she knew she had an underlying condition of LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ), Rita Wilson, whose net worth is $20 million as Celebrity Net Worth listed, said she had carefully monitored her health through mammograms and MRIs.

Prior to the diagnosis, Daily Mail reported the mom-of-two explained that she recently underwent a breast biopsy. However, no sign of cancer was discovered until she sought a second opinion. She added that the doctor discovered the cancer and seeking the opinion of another pathologist, the diagnosis was confirmed.

"Recently, after two surgical breast biopsies, PLCIS (pleomorphic carcinoma in situ) was discovered," Rita Wilson explained. "I mention this because there is much unknown about PLCIS and it is often found alongside DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). I was relieved when the pathology showed no cancer."

Despite the tough news and the effects of it to her net worth value, Rita Wilson, remained steadfast and positive about her health, saying that "early diagnosis is the key."

"I share this to educate others that a second opinion is critical to your health," she said. "You have nothing to lose if both opinions match up for the good, and everything to gain if something that was missed is found, which does happen. Early diagnosis is key."

On Facebook on Tuesday, Rita Wilson wrote a message encouraging other women to seek a "necessary and vital" second opinion if they found themselves in similar situations.

Meanwhile, while Rita Wilson is on medical leave, Glenne Headly will replace her in the Broadway play "Fish in the Dark." But a spokesperson said Wilson is expected to return on stage on May 5.
