The world is hit by an otherworldly explosion and the only repercussion is the changes five very different people experience from then on. This is the very premise of The CW's all-new "The Messengers," a series that may be too familiar for most but trying to be different for all.
Amid the success of vampire-, superhero-, and demon-hunting-themed shows, The CW is trying to continue its streak in providing unique shows with peculiar plots to its viewers.
Starting this Friday, The CW is airing its new show "The Messengers" that features a mysterious plot and beautiful and handsome actors because duh! it's The CW.
The show is headlined by five actors: "Revolution" alum JD Pardo (a federal agent), "Skins" star Sofia Blac-D'Elia (a mother), "City of Dreams" actor Jon Fletcher (a televangelist), "Super 8" star Joel Courtney (a troubled high school student) and "One Tree Hill" alum Shantel VanSanten (a scientist), according to AV Club.
After the explosion, these five learn that they have developed powers and that they have transformed into a certain type of angel, who has translucent wings that are only visible in mirrors or glass windows.
The storyline was written by Eoghan O'Donnell and per USA Today, the premiere episode of "The Messengers" will primarily focus on introducing the characters, which may be a little boring for some, but is going to be very necessary for one to know where the show is headed to.
At the end of the pilot episode, viewers will be left wondering whether the five characters have miraculously turned into angels or devils. The mystery isn't too big of a job for one to figure out, but the twists and the new revelations will leave everyone wanting more... hopefully.
The official show summary of "The Messengers" reads: "When a mysterious object falls to Earth in a blinding flash, it sends out a shockwave that knocks scientist Vera Ivanov unconscious. When she awakes, she finds herself somehow connected to four strangers who collapsed at the same time: Erin, a young woman trying to protect her daughter from an abusive ex-husband; Peter, a troubled high-school student; Raul, a federal agent trying to evade an undercover assignment; and Joshua Jr., a second-generation televangelist. And all of them awake with unexplained powers."
The premiere episode of The CW's all-new series "The Messengers" is set to air this Friday night at 9/8c.
