Nancy Reagan Today - Former US first lady Nancy Reagan is reportedly endorsing Hillary Clinton for the 2016 U.S. Presidential Elections. However, the story, which was first reported by The National Report, is actually a hoax.
Today, the Nancy Reagan presidential endorsement story, which is said to be a hoax, no longer exists. However, a cached version is still available, Mediaite noted. While other news site immediately recognized the report as fake and untrue, Bloomberg Politics fell for it.
"The time for a woman to serve as our President has come - really, now is the time - and I think the idea of having a former First Lady as the leader of the free world is really quite a marvelous notion," Nancy Reagan allegedly said. "I want Hillary to win. Even though I admire two of the current potential Republican nominees, I have no interest in seeing either of them lead this country."
Today, some still can read the now-unpublished Nancy Reagan report, which was a fabricated story about an upcoming History Channel series "First Ladies In Their Own Words," saying the 93-year-old former first lady is backing up Hillary Clinton in 2016. According to iMediaEthics, the April 10 Bloomberg Politics story was headlined, "Nancy Reagan Gives Her Endorsement to... Hillary Clinton."
As several news sites read the article via Google cache, the story didn't link to any source for the Nancy Reagan-Hillary Clinton claims. The only one mention of attribution was by the means of "an interview," quoted in the Drudge Report, which Politico stated doesn't seem to be connected to the actual Drudge Report.
"For the GOP, this is slightly awkward. Since Ronald Reagan's presidency, and especially since his death, the Gipper's legacy has been worshipfully celebrated, often claimed, by Republican candidates," the article stated.
Despite a hoax, Bloomberg Politics still fell for it and today the Nancy Reagan story has been retracted since Reagan never said such a thing and the series was actually on C-SPAN.
"This story has been retracted. We fell for a hoax. Apologies," the Bloomberg's note states. While Bloomberg Politics Executive Editor Mike Nizza tweeted, "very very stupid mistake, and one we take very seriously. Simple as that."
Today, Bloomberg has reposted the Nancy Reagan article regarding her alleged endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
