Fox released the first footage of "The X-Files" 2016 event series that features David Duchovny's character, Fox Mulder, and Gillian Anderson's Dana Scully.

The network released the trailer in conjunction with the series' 201-day marathon. All 201 episodes of the series will be aired, one a day, until the event series begins in January. The footage can be seen on YouTube.

NME said that Fox confirmed in March that it will bring back the sci-fi series for a six-episode event series. Chris Carter will return as executive producer. Shooting for the event series started last month in Vancouver, Canada.

Mitch Pileggi will be joining the main cast. He confirmed last April that he will reprise his role as Walter Skinner. Other cast members who will be joining the ensemble include William B. Davis as "The Smoking Man" and Joel McHale of "Community" as a TV news anchor. Plot details about the new episodes are being strictly guarded.

Fox also said that it will air the first episode of the event series on Sunday, followed by episode two on Monday. Remaining episodes will be shown on Fox on subsequent Monday nights.

The sci-fi show that created a cult following originally aired on Fox for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002. It also made a pair of spin off movies in 1998 and 2008. Fox said in January that there were talks about reviving the series.

CNET, however, is not impressed with the footage. The clip they said, is just a montage of scenes from the previous series instead of teasing viewers about what's new.

Executive producer Chris Carter said that the miniseries will showcase brand new monsters. He also added, according to Aceshowbiz, that they are not going to reboot any of the old favorites, but it was something that they thought about. He hopes the brand new stories will scare the audience in brand new ways.
