Newlywed ‘Glee’ Alum Melissa Benoist To Fly As Supergirl Soon

While being cast as Supergirl is not a secret, Benoist recently revealed another confidential info about her — she got married to "Glee" co-star Blake Jenner in spring, E! News has learned.
At the San Diego Comic-Con, Benoist was seen wearing a silver band on her ring finger while promoting "Supergirl." The wedding was said to be solemn, being described as small and with only their families present.
Daily Mail reported that the couple got married after "Supergirl" wrapped filming in late March. Benoist and Jenner met on the set of "Glee" where she played Marley Rose and he played Ryder Lynn.
As the new Supergirl who will be flying on national TV soon, Benoist has been very ready and excited to don the cape of Superman's cousin.
Best known for her appearances in "Glee" and "Whiplash," USA Today reported that the actress loves the sophisticated, elegant cape-suit ensemble she wears for this new CBS series, and she says it has its own transformative powers.
By that, she meant that she could relate to the character Kara Danvers that she plays and her quirky nature. Danvers is the alter-ego of the Krypton related to Clark Kent (Superman). The news site also quoted the actress as saying that she just feels stronger and feel braver when she puts on the suit.
Unlike Superman's Clark Kent alter-ego, the Supergirl mantle has been taken on by different characters over the decades. This time, Kara Danvers is a mild-mannered (this quality runs in the family) assistant to Cat Grant (Callista Flockhart), a media tycoon.
After coming to terms of who she really is and what she can do, she has finally decided to use her special abilities for the sake of justice after a long period of reluctance in using it out of fear of how mere mortals would perceive her.
"Supergirl" will also star Mehcad Brooks as Kara's colleague and friend, James Olsen.
