Actress-producer Leah Remini has come out of the open about the experiences she underwent after leaving Scientology, the religion she spent the greater part of her life practicing.
In a sneak peek at the season debut of her TLC show "Leah Remini: It's All Relative," the 45-year-old actress detailed all about Scientology and its effect on her life.
According to Daily Mail, Remini, two years ago, broke ties with her Church of Scientology. Until now, she is still experiencing the "hard repercussions" of abandoning the discipline.
She says in the clip: "When you leave, you can leave quietly. But if you make a stink in the public world, they call you a Suppressive Person, which means the church has put a stamp on you that says you are bad. They then go to all your family and friends and say you have to disconnect from this Suppressive Person."
She goes on to say that her daughter Sofia was the major reason why she decided to leave Scientology.
The star of the TV series "King of Queens" disclosed: "From what I experienced and what I saw, the church becomes everything. It becomes your mother, your father, everything. You're dependent on the church," Stuff.co.nz has learned.
Remini then says, "I didn't want (Sofia) to be raised that way. Let's say in 10 years, if I didn't want to be connected with the church anymore, my own daughter would be taught to disconnect from me."
Today reported that in response to what Leah Remini has revealed in public, the Church of Scientology gave its comment to People: "It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini continues to rewrite history and exploit her former religion in a pathetic attempt to get ratings for her cable show and seem relevant again."
