The film "Magic Mike," starring Channing Tatum, raked in nearly $40 million at the weekend box office. The movie is about Tatum's one-time career as an exotic dancer and talks about the film possibly hitting Broadway has been in effect even before the movie was released in theaters.
Tatum has discussed the project with Director Steven Soderburgh and Writer/Producer Reid Carolin.
The movie is loosely based on Tatum's own past when he was working as a stripper. Hollywood then found him and he eventually became one of the movie's best known actors. Soderburgh helped him to transform his story into a movie and is all for assisting him with converting "Magic Mike" into a stage musical. He will also be helped out by Carolin.
"We are working on it as a Broadway show, which would be a different story, more of a romp, more of a fun night out at a club with a story," screenwriter Carolin told USA Today (via THR). "I'm almost more excited about that than the movie because I think it's the perfect thing for women to go see on Broadway, to be participants in the show."
