The upcoming second season of The CW's "The Flash" has a few surprises in store for fans of the television series including a new suit for the titular hero.
Aside from this, the new season will also feature a new set of villains and will further explore the series' multiverse concept.
Earlier this month, show runners Warner Bros. and The CW teased the new costume for Grant Gustin's Barry Allen character, Variety reported. Unlike the previous suit, the new costume has been given a more streamlined design. Also, the famous lightning bolt logo on the Flash's chest got a makeover with a cleaner white background.
Of course, the costume is not the only new addition to the show. The upcoming season will also debut new villains who will try to defeat the superhuman speedster.
According to Movie Pilot, the second season will feature Zoom as the main antagonist. He is expected to become Flash's most challenging archenemy because he is reportedly faster than Allen and the Reverse Flash.
There are no official details yet regarding Zoom's back story in the show but Comic Book Movie theorized that he might actually be Eddie Thawne, played by Rick Cosnett.
Another villain expected to join the series is Atom Smasher, who will be portrayed by Adam Copeland. In the DC comic books, this character, who goes by the name Albert Rothstein, has superhuman strength and has the ability to turn himself into a giant.
The DC villain Mirror Master is also expected to appear on the show's second season. Based on his fictional background, he has the ability to hypnotize people and create holograms and hallucinations using mirrors.
Other characters who are expected to make a comeback next season are Gorilla Grodd, Heat Wave, Golden Glider and Captain Cold.
As to what fans can expect regarding the plot of the show's second season, executive producer Greg Berlanti teased that future episodes of the series will explore the multiverse concept, Digital Spy reported.
Similar to how the explosion of the particle accelerator created superhumans in season 1, the idea of a multiverse, or parallel universe, will introduce new characters from an alternate version of Earth.
According to the producer, one of these characters is Jay Garrick, the alter ego of the first Flash superhero from DC.
"As we used the particle accelerator in the explosion last year to introduce meta-humans to the DC universe on television, this year we'll be introducing characters from Earth Two, and that's obviously the origin in Jay," Berlanti told Digital Spy. "We'll be dealing with Earth Two on the show and get a chance to tell those kinds of stories."
Fans will get to see the full view of the new suit in action and more when "The Flash" season 2 premieres on Oct. 6.
