Rihanna has filed a claim against her former accountants accusing them of mismanaging her finances. The singer alleges that the accountants cost her millions of dollars on her "Last Girl on Earth" tour two years ago.
According the Wall Street Journal, the suit filed in Manhattan's federal court accuses Rihanna's former accounting firm, Berdon LLP of "significant financial losses." The lawsuit describes the accountants' work as "gross mismanagement."
The suit goes into detail, describing Rihanna's introduction into the music industry at a very young age and refereed to her as a "financial amateur" at the time.
The claim reads, "Because she was a minor with no knowledge of the music industry or financial matters generally, Fenty [Rihanna's last name] placed Berdon in a position of trust and loyalty."
Rihanna alleges that the firm and two accountants rewarded themselves with commissions based on her gross income, which is said to not be a standard thing to do in the industry. During Rihanna's tour, the accountants' commission reached 22 percent in total revenue, while they paid the singer only six percent.
The suit also claims that the accountants did not create an appropriate budget for the tour, resulting in a loss in millions of dollars. Additionally, the accountants are accused of poor recordkeeping and not considering Rihanna's income and expenses and therefore not capitalizing on her "personal net worth and long-term wealth."
