At Gamescom 2015, developer Square Enix's presentation for the upcoming "Final Fantasy XV" featured the return of a series regular.

Through a new gameplay trailer, the development studio treated attendees of the event a glimpse of the Malboro monster's comeback, True Achievements reported.

The clip unveiled by the studio is almost two minutes long and featured the playable main character Noctis and his group venturing across a certain area of the game. As they made their way through a swamp, they are greeted with the surprise appearance of Malboro, a huge plant-like creature with tentacles that first came out in 1988's "Final Fantasy II."

Almost instantly, the Malboro kills the main character using its deadly breath.

As noted by Hajime Tabata, director of the upcoming game, the well-known monster is not the only new addition in the upcoming "Final Fantasy XV." According to the director, the latest installment in the series will still feature airships.

Tabata said Square Enix is currently collaborating with Avalanche Studios, creator of "Just Cause 3," to work out the control systems of the aerial vehicles.

However, with the game set to come out in 2016, the director is still not sure if the development team will have enough time to include the flyable airships. But, Tabata is still determined on featuring the airships in the game even as a downloadable content.

"My personal goal is to implement airships that can fly around in full-scale," he told Famitsu according to Siliconera. "I'm not certain whether we'll be able to make it on time for the retail release, but I think we should do even if it means releasing it after as a download."

"I'd like to experience that, and I'm sure the fans would also like to experience that too," Tabata added.

As for the other projects of Square Enix, the studio is also currently negotiating with Microsoft to bring "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" to the Xbox One Console. The massively multiplayer online role-playing game first came out in 2014 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Now that Microsoft has allowed cross-platform gameplay for the Windows 10 and the Xbox One, the studio can work on a port of the game for Microsoft's next-gen console. However, the two firms are still negotiating the terms of that project, Dual Shockers has learned.

But aside from the Xbox platform, game producer Naoki Yoshida said that a version of the game for the Nintendo NX is also possible. This is because other than Microsoft, Square Enix is also working with Nintendo to create versions of "Dragon Quest X" and "Dragon Quest XI" for the NX.
