Last weekend, R&B Singer Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Foster rushed to the side of Foster's 11-year-old son (Usher's former stepson), Kile Glover, who was pronounced brain dead on Sunday, after a jet ski struck him on Lake Lanier the day before. At Wednesday's ESPY Awards, Usher was understandably a no show.
The awards show on Wednesday night had a lineup of presenters but Usher had to withdraw. He is laying low and evidently has chosen to be with family at the time of this tragedy.
Usher and Foster married in 2007, however, divorced in 2009. Despite the ongoing custody battle over their two sons, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond, Usher has been by her side through this ordeal, even chartering a jet for her to quickly be by her son's side.
"He grew close to Kyle and, of course, that has nothing to do with the situation with Tameka," a source told US magazine. "He loved Kyle. This is a terrible, awful tragedy. Usher is torn up."
There has been no updates released concerning Kile's condition since TMZ reported on Monday that the boy had not experiences any brain activity since he was admitted into Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, on Saturday.
According to various sources, a family friend of Usher, 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard is under investigation. He was responsible for operating the watercraft when he ran over Kile and a 15-year-old girl, who suffered a cut on the head and a broken arm, according to MTV News.
"The accident is under investigation, and Hubbard is [under investigation] as the operator of the personal watercraft," Sgt. Mike Burgamy of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources told ABC News.
"My steadfast belief is that a father is important in a child's life," the singer said.
