Hip-hop fans and movie goers alike will be in utter shock once they see the actor behind legendary rapper and recording artist Tupac Shakur in the film "Straight Outta Compton," now amassing millions in theaters nationwide.
In a scoop by EntertainThis, 23 year-old Marcc Rose narrated how he got to play the part of Tupac in the said film, "I packed all my bags and I just moved to L.A. in hopes to find and land this opportunity. I went for it."
Evidently, it was the right decision for Rose to grab the role. The Brooklyn native told Yahoo Movies in an interview that, aside from the opportunity and honor of bringing Tupac back to life in the big screen, he was humbled to have met the rapper's mother, Afeni Shakur, an activist and philanthropist, who treated him like family when he lived with the Shakurs while filming.
Originally, the role of Tupac was not included in the film but was eventually taken in after the audience in test screenings looked for the "California Love" rapper. From there, Rose auditioned and immediately grabbed the attention of the film's cast and crew.
Rose recalled his encounter with NWA producer and friend to Tupac, Dr. Dre, saying that it was a crazy experience for him. In a video by EntertainThis, Rose said that ever since he turned 18 people have recurrently having him mistaken for the successful rapper who was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996.
"Straight Outta Compton" was used by NWA as a title to one of its albums and is now also translated into a film depicting how the group revolutionized the hip-hop culture with their songs and stories of friendship and brotherhood, according to IMDb. According to The Boombox, the film went straight to no. 1 at the box office with an estimated $56.1 million just over the weekend.
