Kaitlin Doubleday, who plays the role of Rhonda Lyon in Fox's series, "Empire," talks about her character, the show's upcoming season and her excitement for the new cast.
Doubleday told Wetpaint that Andre and Rhonda's marriage were on the rocks. The death of Vernon Turner affected the couple's relationship — both having completely different ways of dealing with guilt and fear.
One thing that's holding them together is Rhonda's pregnancy, which came as a surprise in season one's finale.
"It's also brought the family around them and mended some relationships, as everyone is hopeful and excited to welcome the first heir," the 31-year-old actress said.
Meanwhile, the "Catch Me If You Can" actress said she's excited about Chris Rock joining the cast for "Empire" season 2, saying, "He's so hilarious so I knew he'd add a new flavor to the show."
It's undeniable that Fox brought a lot of big names in the entertainment industry in "Empire" season 1. Many fans are expecting for more this new season, and so far, the names that have been reported to make an appearance were Pitbull, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, Marisa Tomei, Ludacris, Kelly Rowland, Al Sharpton, Andre Leon Talley, Swizz Beatz and Ne-Yo.
Reverend Al Sharpton and fashion icon André Leon Talley will also make an appearance when "Empire" season 2 premieres, Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed, Thursday. The two powerful real-life icons will show support to the imprisoned Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard.
Tyra Ferrell has also been cast for a recurring role. Deadline reported that she would be playing the role of a lawyer who will come in contact with the Lyon family. Another actor cast for a recurring role as a lawyer, as per TV Line, was Andre Royo.
Adam Rodriguez was also reported to play the recurring role of Laz Delgado, a concert promoter, expert hustler and a possible new love interest for Cookie Lyon, a character played by Taraji P. Henson.
"Empire" season 2 premieres on Sept. 23, 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
