Discover card will be joining MasterCard, Visa and American Express in Apple Pay on Wednesday. Because of the near field communication (NFC) technology that Apple is using, cardmembers will now be able to make contactless payments.
What are the benefits that Discover cardholders can get if they decide to use this method?
1. Cash Back
Discover is offering a 10 percent cash back for up to $10,000 for in-store purchases made through Apple Pay, LowCards.com reported. In other words, the consumer can earn up to $1,000 simply by using the mobile app in paying.
2. Extra 10 Miles per Dollar
In addition to the cash back, some travel — Discover it Miles, Miles and Escape — reward cardmembers will also be eligible to earn 10 miles extra per dollar, reported by Business Insider.
3. $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee
Cardmembers, in the event that they decide to use it with Apple Pay, will reportedly continue to receive $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee. It means that if there are any unauthorized purchases made on the card, the card member is not responsible for it, according to the notes on Business Wire.
4. Convenience and Support
"Discover's focus on simplicity and value for our cardmembers aligns well with the way Apple Pay makes purchases easy and convenient," President of Payment Services at Discover, Diane Offereins, said.
Furthermore, cardmembers using the Apple Pay will still have an access to Discover's 24/7 U.S.-based customer care centers.
5. Security
"As the mobile payments landscape matures, Discover remains committed to giving cardmembers secure options for using their cards and mobile devices," Offereins also said.
Apple Pay focuses on security and privacy. Say the cardmember adds the card information on Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored — either on the device or on Apple servers.
Instead, a unique device account number is assigned, which is encrypted and securely stored in the "Secure Element" of the cardmember's device. A one-time unique and dynamic security code is used to authorize each transaction.
Apple Pay reportedly works with Phone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Watch, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
