"Gotham" Season 2 will bring in a new kind of antihero-themed series this fall season. Ahead of its premiere this week, we bring you 3 of the must-know facts and changes producers have done to the show.
1. New Format
"Gotham" Season 2 is all about changes. The biggest change of them all is the Fox's series' new format. Entertainment Weekly has learned that instead of following Season 1's format, the producers have decided to create a season that is divided into two parts having 11 episodes each. This was done to give show fans a "more serialized drama."
"It is a very, very different show," said Benjamin McKenzie, who plays James Gordon. "It is almost completely serialized. We're aiming for a grander, saga-type construction in which we can actually sit with the characters and understand their motivations and how the turbulence of their lives affects the greater landscape."
2. Additional Villains
Things will turn pretty dark when "Gotham" Season 2 airs on national TV since producers have opted to introduce more villains to the show and give viewers more time to explore each character from the Dark Knight's world.
"What we've done is up the ante level. Now that we have the confidence of the world, we can start to add characters. So when we call this season the rise of the villains, it's very much that. More villains move in to take their piece of the pie and Gordon has to go to very extreme measures to quell the chaos that ensues," Show exec Danny Cannon was quoted as saying by International Business Times.
McKenzie also spilled the beans on what avid viewers can expect from the premiere and first few episodes of "Gotham's" sophomore run. According to him, villains who got locked up in Arkham will be revealed and introduced.
3. New Big Baddie
Oswald Cobblepot may have been the villainous king of Gotham in the freshman run of the series, but things are going to change from this time on as Season 2 introduces a new baddie. Well, actually there's two of them. Fans will be introduced to James Frain's Theo Galavan and Jessica Lucas' Tabitha Galavan.
It seems that Penguin will struggle to hold on to his power when the siblings arrive and gather multiple villains. Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Cobblepot, even admits that the Galavans will disrupt and change the power structure in Gotham, ScreenRant has learned.
Catch the premiere of "Gotham" Season 2 this Monday night at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
